About Dr. Hwang

Dr. Erica Hwang, MD, FACP

Dr. Hwang received her undergraduate and medical education in the combined premedical/medical program at the University of Michigan and completed her residency training at the University of Michigan Medical Center. She spent one year as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) during medical school. 

Prior to starting her solo practice, Dr. Hwang was on the clinical faculty at Georgetown University Medical Center for 5 years and proceeded to partner with two well-established group practices in Bethesda over a 20-year period. 

Dr. Hwang has consistently been named as one of Washingtonian Magazine’s and Checkbook Magazine’s Top Doctors in her field. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society.

January/February 2026 Announcements
For Current Patients

Our patient portal has switched from Patient Fusion to FollowMyHealth. All patients who were previously connected to the old portal were sent invitations to the new portal on December 19th. If you would like to be invited or re-invited to the new portal, you may either call our office or send an administrative request through the Contact page of this website. Please note that some features of the new portal, including Tanya’s ability to send and receive messages, are pending as our EMR continues to upgrade the new portal.  Patients will no longer be able to see old conversation threads from the old portal, but Dr. Hwang and Tanya can still view old threads in the EMR. Even if you have used FollowMyHealth with other medical practices in the past, please use the invitation you received from FollowMyHealth inviting you to “Connect to True Physician Care, LLC with FollowMyHealth” so that you can specifically locate our practice; also, open the invitation on a computer web browser as it does not always work if you try to sign up on a FollowMyHealth app which you may have previously installed onto your smartphone.
 
The invoices for the 2026 Annual Administrative Fees were sent out in mid-December.  You may use the link contained in the invoice to pay your fee electronically if you prefer to pay via credit card. We kindly ask that the fee be paid by January 31, 2026. Please reach out to Tanya if you have any questions or specific requests regarding the Admin Fee.
 
Our office will be closed on New Year’s Day. 
 
Tanya will be out of the office on Monday, January 19.
 
Dr. Hwang will be out of the office and on vacation January 27 – February 1, and from the afternoon of February 18th through February 22. Urgent medical issues will be covered by Dr. Sue Kanter. You may reach Tanya during normal business hours or reach Dr. Kanter for urgent matters after hours by calling our office phone number.  Tanya will communicate with Dr. Kanter during normal business hours.  (Note that Dr. Kanter does not check for patient messages in the Patient Fusion portal).  Dr. Hwang will continue to check for medication refills while she is away.
 
Our office will close at 3 PM on February 5 for an office party.

Tanya Alston, MA

Tanya Alston has been working with Dr. Hwang as a medical assistant for much of Dr. Hwang’s medical career. Patients appreciate her warm personality, professionalism, patient-centered focus and adept technical skills.
