About Dr. Hwang

Dr. Erica Hwang, MD, FACP

Dr. Hwang received her undergraduate and medical education in the combined premedical/medical program at the University of Michigan and completed her residency training at the University of Michigan Medical Center. She spent one year as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) during medical school. 

Prior to starting her solo practice, Dr. Hwang was on the clinical faculty at Georgetown University Medical Center for 5 years and proceeded to partner with two well-established group practices in Bethesda over a 20-year period. 

Dr. Hwang has consistently been named as one of Washingtonian Magazine’s and Checkbook Magazine’s Top Doctors in her field. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society and maintains hospital privileges at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

February 2025 Announcements
For Current Patients

Tanya will be out of the office Friday afternoon, February 14; Monday, March 17; and Tuesday, March 18.

Dr. Hwang will be out of the office Friday, February 28. She will be covering urgent phone calls during the day via Tanya, so you may call the office or send a portal message to Tanya who will communicate with Dr. Hwang. Medication refills will be completed as usual.

Dr. Hwang will be out of the office March 27-30. Urgent medical issues will be covered by Dr. Sue Kanter. You may reach Tanya during normal business hours or reach Dr. Kanter for urgent matters after hours by calling our office phone number. Tanya will communicate with Dr. Kanter during normal business hours. (Note that Dr. Kanter does not check for patient messages in the Patient Fusion portal). Dr. Hwang will continue to check for medication refills while she is away.

Tanya Alston has been working with Dr. Hwang as a medical assistant for much of Dr. Hwang’s medical career. Patients appreciate her warm personality, professionalism, patient-centered focus and adept technical skills.
